Working with Make It Wild

Overview

Human impact on the planet is driving climate change. The rapidly increasing population has led to more and more of our natural land being built on, used to grow our food and has ultimately been taken away from wildlife.
Flotilla has partnered with Make it Wild – a Yorkshire-based company that provides a range of services from rewilding, wildflower meadows, pond digging, tree planting and much more – to support its net zero delivery schemes and to counteract some of its clients’ impact on the planet.

About Make It Wild

Make it Wild was co-founded by Helen Neave and Christopher Neave in 2017 with the purpose to protect nature. Helen switched scalpel for spade, changing her career from being a senior ear, nose and throat surgeon and a pioneer of surgical education to begin a journey to address biodiversity loss and to give land back to nature.

Helen and Christopher bought their first piece of land as a family project – a 26 acres plot just outside of York – in 2010. They planted 18,000 trees which are now well established and doing exactly what they had hoped, which is to support biodiversity. And so Make it Wild was born. Make it Wild has since grown to ten sites and is developing a regional network to further broaden its
reach in the South of England. In Winter 2023/24 the company planted its 80,000th tree. It now offers a wide mix of nature-based solutions including tree dedications, pond, bird box and other dedications and carbon offsetting through tree planting, as well as foraging and other nature connection experiences and an eco-friendly holiday cottage.

“Everything we do is facilitated by partners, including Flotilla. We make many meaningful connections through our partners and we reinvest any profits to help create a legacy, to create the ancient forests of the future.”

Helen Neave, Co-founder, Make It Wild

A Greener Future

Flotilla works with Make it Wild on a number of nature-based projects, including planting trees and creating new spaces for wildlife and nature to thrive. It’s one of the ways Flotilla helps its clients to take steps towards a greener future and to improve their connection with nature.

One of the additional benefits of working with Make it Wild brings, Francesca Woodward, Director, Flotilla says:
“Being in nature has proven health and wellbeing benefits and we see how important this is for the businesses we work with. By connecting employees with nature, businesses are not only working towards reducing their carbon impact but are also helping the wellbeing of their employees. Furthermore, by inspiring and engaging employees, businesses can cultivate a positive green culture from within, fostering a sense of collective responsibility. Embracing nature-based activities not only supports environmental goals but also adds an element of fun and enjoyment to the workplace, enhancing overall job satisfaction and team cohesion. Helen, Christopher and their team at Make it Wild are a pleasure to work with. Like us, they are passionate about making a difference and that is evident in every project they undertake. Partnering with them, we are helping to contribute to biodiversity and create natural habitats where wildlife can thrive.”
